Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore

Open to students ages 11 through 19 as of June 30, 2009

Directed and Produced by James Jillson Selway
Assistant Director: Erik Thor
Vocal Coach: Nadia Izbitskaya

Suzuki Kingston Musicfest presents the delightfully spooky Ruddigore, one of the most unusual and certainly the most haunting of the Gilbert & Sullivan shows.  Ruddigore tells the tale of Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd (disguised as Robin Oakapple, a young farmer) who challenges his ghostly ancestors in order to break the family curse.  The score includes beautiful ballads, an exciting ghost chorus, special dances and one of the fastest and funniest patter songs G&S ever devised!

Our unique Music Theatre class is an opportunity to take part in a musical production directed by opera and musical theatre pros in the nurturing atmosphere of Suzuki Kingston Musicfest – all in one week.  The class meets daily to rehearse the show presented on Friday evening in a fully staged and costumed performance.

This course includes:

  • Three hours minimum daily rehearsal in music theatre
    • Staging 8 am to 9:50 am
    • Chorus / musical rehearsals 10 to 10:50 am
  • Participation in music theatre production performed on Friday evening in an hour-and-fifteen minute abridgement
